👤 Who we are

File Transfer (file-transfert.com) is a free web service run by an individual. For any question about this policy or your personal data, write to contact@file-transfert.com.

📁 Your files

Your files are never uploaded to or stored on our servers. They are sent directly from the sender’s browser to the receiver’s browser over an encrypted WebRTC connection (DTLS). The file name and size are only exchanged between these two browsers.

When a direct connection is impossible (for example behind some corporate networks), the encrypted data may pass through a relay server (TURN) operated by the PeerJS project. The relay only forwards encrypted data and cannot read your files.

🌐 Connection data

To connect two browsers, your browser briefly contacts third-party servers that see your IP address and a random identifier generated for the transfer:

• the PeerJS signaling server (0.peerjs.com), which introduces the two browsers to each other;
• a Google STUN server (stun.l.google.com), which helps each browser discover its public network address.

We do not keep any log of transfers.

☁️ Hosting and audience measurement

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical data (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to deliver and protect the site. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits: it does not use cookies and only gives us aggregated statistics.

📢 Advertising and cookies

File Transfer is free because it displays advertising. Ads are provided by third-party networks, currently Monetag. These partners may use cookies or similar technologies and collect data such as your IP address, browser and device type to display ads, limit how often you see them and measure their performance. These ads are only loaded if you accept them in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you refuse, no advertising script is loaded; if you withdraw your consent later, ads stop from the next page you open. Your choice is kept for 6 months in your browser, and you can change it at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.

💾 Data stored in your browser

The site stores your language choice (English or French) and your cookie choice in your browser’s local storage. To save large files directly to disk, it also installs a service worker that only runs in your browser. None of this sends any data to us.

🔍 Access or delete your data

You do not need to contact us to find out what data we hold about you: here is the complete answer.

• We keep no personal data about you. The site has no user accounts, and transferred files are never stored on our servers.
• Your language and cookie choices are only stored in your browser. To see or delete them, clear this site’s data in your browser settings. To change your cookie choice, use the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of the page.
• Advertising cookies, if you accepted them, are set and managed by Monetag. To access or delete the data it holds, contact it through its privacy policy.
• Technical connection data (IP address) is processed by our host Cloudflare, which you can contact through its privacy policy.

⚖️ Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. We hold almost no personal data ourselves; for data processed by the partners listed above, you can also contact them directly. To exercise your rights, write to contact@file-transfert.com.

You can also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).
